| Six years ago the Grantham Lions Club designed and put together a safe place where youth (grade 5-8) could come hang out, have fun and feel safe. For 3 hrs the parents of these youth knew that their child was in a safe and protected environment. The Grantham Lions Club is proud for its reputation it has for the “Youth Dances.” For the past 4 yrs the Volunteers of the Youth Dances & the members of the Grantham Lions Club have had nothing but enjoyment hearing from parents; “How wonderful it is to have these dances for these youth”, “I feel very safe knowing my child is safe here.” The night of our Sept 23 dance, the volunteers couldn’t believe the behavior of some of these youth outside of the Grantham Lions Club. There were reports of some youth pushing, shoving, hitting, kicking, punching & even biting other youth. The Grantham Lions Youth Dance Committee (GLYDC) is appalled at the actions of these children & would like to apologize to the parents & to the youth that got hurt outside of our building. The Grantham Lions Youth Dance Committee stands behind the safety of our dances and will take actions to see that this does not happen again. Effective immediately the following changes will happen…. The presale of tickets will no longer be at 5pm for youth. Presale will be open from 5:30pm – 6:30pm to "PARENTS ONLY" on the nights of the dances. (3 tickets per adult) Then at 6:30 if there are tickets left over they will be available for youth to purchase. The GLYDC feels that this will allow working parents to have enough time to come to the hall to purchase tickets for their youth. The GLYDC also feel that this will prevent parents from dropping off their child not knowing if he/she is even in the building. (Please note the GLYDC nor the Grantham Lions Club are responsible for your Child/Children until they are inside the hall with a purchased ticket)There should be no reason to see youth lined up after school or waiting in line to purchase tickets now outside of the building and in the parking lot of the Grantham Lions property. The GLYDC is sorry for the changes and hope that this does not discourage youth for coming but something had to be done to create a safer environment for these youth outside of the building and in the parking lot of the Grantham Lions property Thank You, The Grantham Lions Youth Dance Committee |
